I was sitting in the shop waiting for the safety & emissions inspection on my car, and I made a list. As I watch people, I sort of collect things I like about people in general. This what I came up with, in no particular order:
- straight teeth
- clean fingernails
- clothing that fits and flatters
- attentive eyes
- the ability to listen without interrupting
- a contagious, disarming smile
- unprovoked kindness
- red hair
- clear skin
- generous lips
- uninhibited laughter

I appreciate all those things too, and sometimes have a hard time taking my eyes off them, but here is another take on something that is also beautiful and compelling: "Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don't matter at all, because once you are Real you can't be ugly, except to people who don't understand."

Dirty fingernails are gross! I never get why men have long fingernails either!

ReplyDeleteLong on men- gross. Looks like claws. Long and natural on women- pretty, elongates the finger.
